Irreplaceable vs Replaceable

This is a lesson you can't miss. You matter way more than you think that you do. I'm so proud of you for being here. Let's dive into June's end-of-the-month lesson for you to take with you into July.

We've all done it. Put everything we've got into a project, event, or work schedule. We get up early to make sure we get to this external location on time, fight traffic, or practice until the wee overs of the night to make sure we are the best at what we do. It's admirable, and yet, forgetful. Let me tell you about Bill.

Bill was an amazing carpenter. The company he worked for gave him several awards and recognition points for the work he did. He also have a series of side jobs he would do for people he knew, smaller jobs, or people who only wanted him to work on the project. In his forties, he had an accident with a saw causing him to take several months off work as he healed. During this time, the company hired a new carpenter to get the jobs done. This carpenter ended up being just as good as Bill. He would stay the long hours, put in the extra effort, and work on the side for those loyal customers. Bill was replaceable here.

Meanwhile, Bill also had three amazing kids, who were in their teens when Bill was injured. He felt like he got to know his family all over again. He had worked overtime basically their whole childhood and missed family dinners, various day trips, and movie nights. So many nights Bill got home after the kids were sleeping, and saw them for a brief moment before leaving in the morning. During this time off with his family, he realized he was important here. He had a role to play. Bill was irreplaceable in his father role.

When Bill healed up and went back to work, he was expected to go right back to overworking and being underpaid alongside this new superstar carpenter. He was expected to give up home hours, and do odd jobs since his replacement had taken over his old routine, and for the first time, Bill said no. Bill decided I will work the hours I am paid, be paid for the hours that I work, and the rest of the time I know where I need to be.

This month, your challenge is to identify all the areas in your life that are important to you. All the areas you pour the most energy into, and then I want you to identify where you are replaceable and where you are irreplaceable. You see you are replaceable in your career, hobbies, sports, and daily activities. But, you are not replaceable at home. You are your child's parent. You are your partner's life partner. You are not replaceable with your pets or your true friends. You are your home's foundation. You cannot be replaced in your relationships, especially those at home. There is no substitute for you in this world. Remember that. Be mindful of where you place your focus, and where you spend your time.

You are divine.

Spend some time on this as we enter into the end of June, so when you walk into July, you are grounded in who you are to them, and who you want to be for you.

See you in the next one
